Shapeshifters 2 @ Zirca

Recently, I was invited to participate in Shapeshifters 2, the second incarnation of the art exhibition initiated by the local club Zirca. My contribution came in the form of a 3D artwork titled " The Falling Rabbit of My Wonderland". Needless to say, this was inspired by the novel "Alice's Adventures in the Wonderland" which I'm a fan of.

Unfortunately, the artwork suffered a catastrophic damage at the end of the 2-day exhibition when it fell onto the floor. What you see here in the second photo is the patched-up artwork, held together by nothing except gravity and some questionable tapework.

Sitting nicely on a shelf at my workplace now, the artwork has taught me some valuable lessons about not creating disposable works. I shall do better the next time then.

Kult Issue #5 - Fear

Late last year, I was invited by Steve Lawler to contribute to the latest edition of Kult, the iconic magazine published by his agency of the same name. With the title of this issue named 'Fear', I was asked to offer my interpretation of Japanophobia (fear of Japan).

As an admirer of Takashi Murakami's Superflat movement and the mind-bending animations of the late Satoshi Kon, I eventually created this self-portrait of myself being pursued by a murderous mascot in a strange land. Uncharacteristically, I decided to create this self-portrait predominately in pink as the colour is frequently associated with the concept of cuteness so prevalent in Japanese culture.

Kult is available for free at some locations such as Books Actually. Go grab one now while it lasts!

Hello 2011!

This probably marks the 3rd time in 2 years that I've gave this blog a clean slate again. Hopefully, this marks a brand new beginning for a revitalised k.0627 and my ambitious plans to take over the world.

I wish everybody a happy 2011!
